The Award Ceremony

The Hackmatack Award ceremony is a celebration of reading and writing shared by the participating children and the nominated authors. Young readers from across the region join the authors of the nominated books to applaud the results of their reading and voting.

Hackmatack is happy to announce that the 2012 Award Ceremony will be held in Moncton, New Brunswick on Friday, April 27, 2012, from 10 to 12. The event is open to the public. Call (902) 424-3774 for details.

Eighteen nominated authors participated in last year's ceremony, held on May 13, 2011 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Readers from many participating communities cheered for the 2011 Hackmatack Award winners: Ashley Spires with Binky the Space Cat was the winner for the English fiction category, Valerie Wyatt received the English Non-Fiction award for her book How to Build Your Own Country, Richard Petit, author of La plus jolie histoire, was the winner for French Fiction and Gilles Tibo received the award in French Non-Fiction for Le dico de Tibo. The ceremony was followed by book signings and a reception with the nominees and over 400 young readers.
